NEW and Exciting ABCD Resources!!
Homeostasis Professional Mentoring Initiative (HPMI). It is imperative to our discipline that we strive to maintain homeostasis in our ranks and train a new generation of educators. The HPMI matches veteran members with less experienced colleagues in a one-to-one longitudinal mentoring relationship, to help our younger members become more successful educators and course directors. For our veteran members, here is a chance to share your wealth of knowledge and experience with a younger faculty member. For our younger members, this is a rare chance to seek advice from an established leader in education, curricular design and implementation, course integration, policy, etc. More information about the HPMI is found in the ABCD Members Only Resource section.
ABCD Curricular Initiative. Is your Department or Institution faced with the process of curricular revision? Have you been tasked with incorporating biochemistry and other foundational sciences into an integrated medical, dental, or pharmacy school curriculum? Are you being asked to adopt new methods of “learner-centered teaching”, or small group activities? Do you need assistance writing learning objectives or assessment items for your courses or linking them to institutional competencies? The Association of Biochemistry Course Directors (ABCD) can assist you with all of the above and more! We currently have a membership of nearly 300 biochemistry faculty representing ~170 Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy across North American and the Caribbean. ABCD members are educational and curricular leaders at their institutions. We have members with tremendous experience and expertise in all aspects of curricular design and integration, learner-centered teaching modalities, and educational scholarship. If you would be interested in hosting one of our members for a visit to your institution to consult with you on these matters or to run discussions or interactive workshops, or would like more information about the ABCD Curricular Initiative, click here.
